The Dominican Republic is located on the island of Hispaniola, taking up two-thirds of the island (Haiti occupies the remaining third) and resides in the Caribbean. Bordering the North of the island is the North Atlantic Ocean while to the south is the Caribbean Sea, with the Dominican Republic sitting the east side of the island and Haiti perching on the west.

The capital city, Santa Domingo, is found in the Metropolitan Area and is surrounded by spectacular sandy beaches, whereas the world famous resorts such as Bauaro and Punta Cana are situated on the East Coast. The city of Santa Domingo is considered a culture capital with a UNESCO world heritage site and an impressive amount of great historical and cultural sites, not to mention the upscale area of Faro a Colon, which boasts the remains of the world’s most famous traveller, Columbus.

Returning to the East Coast you’ll find the spectacular bay of Samana which is considered an island must see and is often referred to a natural paradise on earth. For active travellers the Dominican Republic is home to the highest mountains in the Caribbean, and they offer breath-taking views over the island. The mountains are found in the north, in addition to the glorious beaches of the Atlantic coast.

The south of the Dominican Republic is fairly untouched and unseen by many visitors and those that enjoy exploring will be met with an abundance of exotic wildlife and beautiful scenery.
